Sarah Ferguson is said to be reeling after the dramatic arrest of her former husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, as financial pressures mount and her business empire is on hold. Friends claim the Duchess is emotionally overwhelmed, increasingly isolated, and fearful that scrutiny from every direction is closing in.
Sarah Ferguson Faces Financial and Personal Fallout
Insiders say the former Duchess of York is in crisis mode. One royal source revealed via the Daily Mail: “I’ve been talking to some of her friends. She sounds in a bad way. She’s been telling people she is really suffering with her mental health and thinks everyone is out to get her.”
The turmoil follows Andrew’s arrest at Sandringham and news that six of her companies are being wound down for ten days. While Andrew was held for 11 hours on suspicion of misconduct in public office, Sarah Ferguson remained out of sight, having not been seen publicly for months.
Despite the chaos, she reportedly wants to rebuild. A source explained: “But at the same time she is adamant that she wants to get out there and start earning money again. I can’t see how she’s going to do it. Her brand is toxic.”
The same insider suggested her most lucrative option would be controversial: “Her best hope of a money-spinner is a tell-all book about how her family’s friendship with Epstein has destroyed everything and left the monarchy in crisis – but she’s ruled that out apparently.”
There is also the looming possibility of legal scrutiny following her links to the Epstein controversy. “Besides she might end up having to tell that story to the police and a judge and jury or to some other form of inquiry,” the source added.
A Future in the UAE or a Life in Windsor?
With finances tight, attention has turned to where she might base herself next. “I think she’d like to stay in the Windsor area to make it relatively easy for Beatrice and Eugenie to visit with her grandchildren,” a source said. “But I can see the arguments for basing herself in the Gulf if she really thinks she can still make money.”
Although she is said to have ruled out moving to Sandringham, one insider remarked: “I’m not sure why a five-bedroom farmhouse in Norfolk would be so bad.”
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams painted a bleak picture: “Sarah Ferguson has no future at all. She’s shamed and her businesses are closed down, and certainly no charity would touch her and a great deal more will come out. We’re not at the end.”
As investigations continue and public pressure intensifies, those close to her suggest this may be the most precarious chapter yet for the embattled duchess.
