Marvel has revealed variant covers for this summer’s new Scarlet Witch relaunch series. The series puts Wanda Maximoff back in the spotlight with Steve Orlando returning to the character. This time around, Orlando is joined by X-Men Red artist Jacopo Camagni. Main covers for the series come from artist Russell Dauterman. Meanwhile, the debut issue will also come with variant covers from Jenny Frison and P. Craig Russell. These variants show off why Scarlet Witch is one of Marvel’s mightiest mystical users.
Scarlet Witch Relaunch
The upcoming Scarlet Witch relaunch finds the titular hero settled down in upstate New York. Unfortunately, the peace she has found for herself is shattered when a new enemy emerges. Wanda has drawn the ire of a primal force. Now, it won’t stop until it destroys everything she’s worked for. So Wanda gathers her allies to fight for her life, and it is gearing up to be one hell of a fight indeed.
In a statement regarding the series, writer Steve Orlando shares that this Scarlet Witch relaunch has been a dream job. The writer loves getting to return to Wanda and her adventures. Sharing more on the series, Orlando stated that the new series builds on the storytelling of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and continues the journey that began in Darkhold and Scarlet Witch. Only this time, there is a powerful and climactic entity standing in the witch’s way.
Variants
The newly released variant covers show off Scarlet Witch in action. One harkens back to classic blacklight posters with vibrant neon colors, showing Scarlet Witch in what appears to be a pool of lava as she summons a powerful attack. In the background is what is likely the new entity attacking the Marvel hero. It seems to be an amalgamation of different demons eager to destroy her. Meanwhile, the second variant is a much more classic Wanda Maximoff portrait. It shows the character in her classic costume and cowl as she summons chaos magic in her hands. The pinks and red of the variant are classic Scarlet Witch tones, tying it all together.
Scarlet Witch #1 goes on sale June 12th.
