The Scarlet Witch variant known as Lore is making a shocking return to Marvel comics. This summer, Wanda Maximoff is once again starring in her own solo comic. This new series is bringing Lore in for the action, beginning in Issue #3 from writer Steve Orlando and artists Russell Dauterman and Jacopo Camagni. Dauterman took to social media this week to give a first look at the evil variant. This updated version of the character comes complete with a brand-new costume. This one looks a lot like the outfit seen in Elizabeth Olsen’s live-action version of Scarlet Witch seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In the upcoming Scarlet Witch series, the titular hero is settled in upstate New York. However, the peace that Wanda has found is about to go up in flames. A primal force sets its sights on Wanda and will not stop until everything she stands for is burned to the ground. Now, Wanda must gather her allies and all her strength to stop her life from being destroyed. Steve Orlando is writing this new series, which will bring the Scarlet Witch variant Lore back into the Marvel Universe.

Lore’s last interaction with Wanda happened 30 years ago in 1994’s Scarlet Witch limited series. Now, she is back and ready to put an end to Wanda’s life. After all, it was Wanda who put Lore down all those years ago.

Of course, putting Lore in a similar attire to the one seen in the Doctor Strange sequel makes sense. The film’s depiction of Scarlet Witch seemed to split fans after her starring run in the WandaVision series. The character became an antagonist against Doctor Strange after seemingly proving herself and her status as a hero in the Marvel Universe. So, putting the evil variant of the characters in that outfit/vibe works.

Speaking on the character’s redesign, artist Russell Dauterman found it a real treat. With Lore being an evil version of Wanda, Dauterman wanted the design to contrast with Scarlet Witch. While Wanda is magical, vibrant, and super-heroic, Lore is dark and sinister with a goth, undead vibe.

Scarlet Witch #1 is on sale from Marvel on 06/12.
