[UPDATE 10:36 a.m. PT 2/02/2024: Catherine O’Hara went on Watch What Happens Live, where she confirmed being in talks for The Last of Us season 2, though she has since been cast in an undisclosed guest role. The original story is below:]
As people get excited for the return of Naughty Dog and HBO’s live-action zombie-infested world, rumors are spreading faster than the infection. Schitt’s Creek star Catherine O’Hara was asked during a fan Q&A on Watch What Happens Live to address a rumor that she is in talks to join the cast of The Last of Us season 2 (seen below).
The question surprised the star as she asked, “How do you know these things?” She then confirmed that she is in talks to join the second season of the Bella Rasmey and Pedro Pascal-led series. She then confirmed she is in talks to join but said nothing about whether she made a decision or who she could play.
For a fun fact, Catherine O’Hara confirmed she has a connection to The Last of Us. Her son works as a set dresser on the HBO series.
Who Could Schitt’s Creek’s Catherine O’Hara Play in The Last of Us Season 2?
The first season was not shy about diverting from the popular 2013 game developed by Naughty Dog. The HBO adaptation was mostly faithful, but Craig Mazin and the team added or changed some story beats, side stories, and characters. It could leave the door open for the Emmy winner to play a new character, largely because of her age. There is still space for her to fill in the WLF, the militarized survival group, or the Seraphites, a religious cult.
In January, HBO announced multiple major casting announcements for the second season of its mega-hit series. Characters from the second game will be brought to life by Isabela Merced (Dina), Kaitlyn Dever (Abby), and Young Mazino (Jesse). We still don’t know who will play new characters like Lev, Owen, Yara, and more.
Due to those recent casting announcements for The Last of Us, if Catherine O’Hara joins, we hope that the news will drop soon. Regardless of any updates, it will be a while before we revisit Ellie (Ramsey) and Joel (Pascal), as the show is set to return to HBO in 2025.
