The sixth entry in the Scream franchise is rapidly approaching. The popular meta-slasher series manages to gain more and more fans with each passing year. One aspect fans love about the movies is trying to deduce who is responsible for the Ghostface killings before it is revealed. Before fans get a chance to find out who is the killer behind the Ghostface mask in Scream VI, we will be looking at how the previous killers stack up against each other.
9. Mickey Altieri (Scream 2)
Mickey is one of the killers to don the Ghostface mask in the first Scream sequel. He was hired by the film’s other killer to enroll in Sidney’s college and infiltrate her friend group. What did Mickey get out of it? Infamy, of course. His master plan was to go down in history as a killer, and that’s it. One of the franchise’s core themes is legacy, so Mickey is far from the only killer hoping to make themselves a part of the legacy. Mickey may have had an impressive body count, but he doesn’t stand out all that much as a character.
8. Debbie Loomis (Scream 2)
The mastermind behind Scream 2’s killings is Debbie Loomis, the mother of Billy Loomis. Billy was, of course, the main Ghostface in the first movie. After Sidney killed Billy, Debbie put a plan in motion to seek revenge. This is a direct reference to the original Friday the 13th, where Pamela Voorhees seeks revenge for her son’s drowning. The Debbie twist was shocking, but when the dust settled, it is more confusing. Billy was clearly insane, so why did Debbie snap? If Debbie was already insane as well, why not help Billy? Scream VI looks to put the focus back on the Loomis family, as Billy’s illegitimate daughter returns from the fifth entry as a main protagonist.
7. Roman Bridger (Scream 3)
Scream VI seems to be the first film to drift away from Sidney Prescott. She has always been the center of the series, and most of the killers have some personal connection to her. This especially rings true for Roman, the killer from the third entry. Roman seems to be a casual movie director looking to make a name for himself, but in reality, he is Sidney’s half-brother. To many, this was a weak twist connecting him to Sidney. That being said, he is the most prolific killer in the series. He is also the only one to work alone. He is a competent enough killer, but his twist lowers his value on the list.
6. Charlie Walker (Scream 4)
Charlie was a film nerd who wanted to be the next Randy Meeks. However, unlike Randy, Charlie was willing to kill for his spot in Woodsborro’s bloody history. As a Ghostface killer, Charlie wasn’t much. In fact, it could be argued he was the weakest of all the killers. He was used as a pawn in the mastermind’s plan. What boosts him on this list is that he is a likable character. While maybe not as charismatic as Randy, he is still an enjoyable character that represents the audience. His tenure as Ghostface leaves much to be desired, but he is still a memorable enough person outside of the mask.
5. Richie Kirsch (Scream 2022)
Never trust the boyfriend. At least, that is the warning the late Dewey Riley tried to give Sam. As it turns out, surviving four massacres gave Officer Riley good insight, as Sam’s boyfriend Richie is one of the killers this time around. Richie discovers Sam is Billy Loomis’ daughter, so he hatches a plan to become part of history. Richie’s motive is he wants to create another sick massacre that will inevitably become a new movie. He is toxic fan culture incarnate, and he is an excellent character for it. He doe the anti-Randy shtick far better than Charlie did. His reveal was a genuine twist, as he is a likable character all the way up until he is unmasked. Scream VI will likely show how Sam deals with this twist, which could cause her to follow in her father’s footsteps.
4. Amber Freeman (Scream 2022)
One of the scariest characters to ever wear the Ghostface mask is also one of the youngest. Like any great killer, Amber infiltrates the friend group of her victim. She is a ruthless killer who earns the monicker of insane. Even without the mask, she is a terrifying foe. She has crazy eyes and is relentless, nearly taking out Gale and Sidney in a two-on-one brawl. Amber even harkens back to classic slasher villains, as being set on fire isn’t even enough to put her down for good. Whoever dons the mask and robe in the sixth entry has big shoes to fill. Amber also managed to kill franchise veteran Dewey Riley. Something fans will likely never forgive her for.
3. Jill Roberts (Scream 4)
Perhaps one of the most shocking Ghostface killers revealed to date is that of Jill from Scream 4. Sidney’s younger cousin is unassuming, meek, and seemingly innocent. However, this is all an act, as she is one of the most ruthless killers in the series. She kills her partner in crime and beats herself within an inch of her life so that she can play the part of the final girl. Jill is sick of living in her cousin’s shadow, so she decides to create her own massacre to survive. Jill has already gone down as one of the best Ghostface killers in the series. As all killers in the franchise know, however, you can’t beat the classics.
2. Stu Macher (Scream)
One of two Ghostface killers in the original classic, Stu is one of the most memorable characters in the entire series. His entire motive is that his friend asked him to do it, and that is it. Stu’s reveal was completely unexpected, as fans assumed there was only one killer. Stu’s crazy eyes and manic behavior cemented Matthew Lillard as an incredibly fun actor. Stu is just a beloved character. Fans refuse to believe he is dead. In Kevin Williamson’s original scripts for the sequels, Stu was alive and orchestrating a new killer from prison. While it is likely a tv to the head did indeed kill Stu, fans are holding out hope for his return.
1. Billy Loomis (Scream)
The mastermind who started it all was Sidney’s boyfriend, Billy Loomis. Billy was pegged as the Ghostface killer from the very beginning, yet his charisma caused his official reveal to still be shocking. Billy is the killer all the others wish they were. To this day, Billy is one of the most famous slashers of all time. Whenever someone mentions Ghostface, Billy is the one imagined behind the mask. Fans were ecstatic to see his ghostly appearance in the fifth movie appearing to his daughter. His legacy will surely extend into Scream VI, as his daughter Sam seems to have inherited his skills with a knife. This is evident when she finished off Richie in a familiar manner.
