Left 4 Dead 2, Half-Life 2, Portal 2. As a company, Valve seems to be allergic to the number 3. As consumers, we’re all desperate for the third entry in any one of these franchises, and we nearly got one.
Newly leaked pictures show us what could have been in a Left 4 Dead 3 that never came. YouTuber Tyler McVicker has revealed 29 screenshots of what was once to be Left 4 Dead 3 (You can see his video by clicking here). The screenshots are said to show an original level of the game that was built using assets from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, more specifically from the Dust II map. The screenshots may not even be real. But, if they are, fans can look at them longingly and dream of what could have been. McVicker also stated that Left 4 Dead 3 would have featured 8 playable characters and would have been compatible with VR. I don’t know about you guys but for me, Left 4 Dead on VR sounds terrifying.
Unfortunately, the screenshots are said to be from 2013 with the game being canceled in 2017. At this point, it doesn’t seem likely that it’ll be resurrected. After all, it’s been ten years since the second game came out. There is, however, a silver lining to all this misery. Some hope on the horizon. While we may not be getting the third game from Valve any time soon, we are getting Back 4 Blood, a spiritual sequel that’s being made by the original Left 4 Dead studio.
What do you guys think of the screenshots? Do they make you excited for what could have been, sad that it never will be, or do you just find them boring? Which Valve franchise, in particular, would you like to see a threequel to? Most of you may say Half-Life. For me, it has to be Portal. Long live Glados.
