The Lovecraft-inspired, nightmare-infused, action-strategy hybrid game Sea Salt finally releases today. You may be familiar with the game after it’s successfully Kickstarter campaign back in April of 2018. Created by indie duo Y/CJ/Y, Sea Salt has been on my radar for a while. It’s been in development since 2017. I love that Gothic pixel-art ascetic. And getting to take on the role of Dagon, the old God is quite an unusual novelty. The developers have also shown a great deal of passion and talent that I definitely want to support. If you’re not already on board then you should check out the trailer below.
Looks awesome right? I haven’t seen any reviews yet myself, but I am hoping Sea Salt is as good as it looks and sounds. As far as content goes, the game features a story mode where you take on powerful hunters and bosses in a world inspired by Starcraft, Sleepy Hollow, Poe, The Giving Tree, and more. You also get a “Tower Defense” mode. This mode is the opposite of the story mode, in that you are now under attack rather than attacking. So a nice change of pace from the primary gameplay. A good way to keep things from getting repetitive. Both modes feature 19 unlockable units. So you’ll have a lot of variety.
All this is at a very reasonable price of $14.99. It’s available on Steam, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. No PlayStation 4 on that last, which is a shame. But not a deal-breaker. Unless of course, that’s the only thing you have access to. In which case… uh… I am sorry? And you can currently snag the game on Steam with a %15 discount. So if you’re interested in Sea Salt there’s very little reason to say no. Do you feel that? Your inner Old God is calling.
