When someone goes on vacation, they usually hope for sunny skies and a drama-free trip. But sometimes, unexpected things happen, like running into an angry, aggressive local. That’s exactly what happened to Redditor OhMyOhWhyOh during their visit to Seaside, Oregon. They were simply trying to find Painted Rock Beach, accompanied by their children, including a 4-year-old. Since they weren’t familiar with the area, they decided to pull over in a nearby neighborhood, maybe to check directions or ask someone for help. Unfortunately, instead of receiving friendly advice, they encountered a deeply unwelcoming and hostile local.
According to the Redditor, the man didn’t even try to be civil. He reportedly told them he was going to “choke me out and then fill me with holes,” which was an incredibly aggressive and frightening thing to say, especially in front of children. Feeling understandably threatened, the family left immediately, but not before snapping a picture of the man and later posting about the experience on Reddit.
The post quickly gained traction after OhMyOhWhyOh shared it to both the r/Oregon and r/OregonCoast subreddits. On the Oregon Coast subreddit, one user even claimed to have identified the man. Unfortunately, that particular comment was removed by moderators to prevent doxxing. Based on the replies to it, though, it seemed the individual may have had a connection to someone named Adamson or Mike.
Either way, people were furious about how the man behaved. Some users pointed out how telling it was that his identity was uncovered so quickly, suggesting he already had a bit of a notorious reputation among Seaside locals. One user simply wrote, “Dude looks like a scumbag.”
Others encouraged Redditor OhMyOhWhyOh to report the man to the police, arguing that death threats should never be taken lightly. Many felt that if someone is bold enough to say things like that to strangers, especially in front of children, it might only be a matter of time before they follow through and actually hurt someone.
Interestingly, some users said the post made them even more curious about Painted Rock Beach. One user joked, “I think we should all go back and park on this guy’s street and take our time leisurely figuring out where Painted Rock Beach is.”
There were also a number of comments about the broader issue of hostility from some Seaside locals toward visitors and tourists. Many pointed out the irony of this, considering how much the area relies on tourism. One user even shared their own unsettling encounter, saying, “I was ferrying bags over and some guy threatened to kill me, and said his friends were going to shoot me. I told him to call the cops if he wanted, but all the right people knew I was there spending my days off cleaning it up. I guess that made him angrier.”
