An Army veteran was the victim of a senseless shooting that took place in Seattle earlier this week. Jesse Grant was shot on Monday night after an altercation with a woman over something unbelievable — chicken bones.
The incident played out at a South Seattle Safeway parking lot. Grant, who had just finished eating a fried chicken dinner with his pal, threw the bones out of his friend’s vehicle. Unfortunately, the trash hit a woman’s car parked next to them, and the female driver lost it. Emerging from her vehicle, she approached Grant, a father of three, and began yelling. They soon started exchanging words, and the angry female driver, who hasn’t been identified, reached for a pair of scissors to slash the veteran’s tires.
Grant wasn’t pleased and reportedly became enraged. He proceeded to wrestle the female driver in a bid to perform a citizen’s arrest. A security officer intervened, instructing the veteran to get off the woman, to which he obliged. However, Grant held on to the woman while dialing 911 to report the incident. That was when the unnamed woman brought out a gun and pointed it at the veteran.
The police report alleges that the female driver initially aimed the gun at Grant’s head. However, she changed her mind and pointed it at his leg before pulling the trigger. The former military man was struck in the thigh. Both victim and suspect fell to the ground and began struggling over the gun. While the woman tried to reach to shoot again, Grant knocked it out of her hand. At that moment, another woman, believed to be the suspect’s partner, got out of the vehicle to grab the gun. She also attacked Grant.
Eventually, both women fled the scene with the gun, leaving the veteran injured. Speaking to Fox13 from his hospital bed, Grant said:
“If she’s willing to shoot somebody over chicken, she’s willing to shoot somebody over anything. I was in the military; I never got shot but I get shot in Safeway over some chicken.”
Steve Grant’s story has since gone viral, and Internet users have mixed reactions. Some believed the woman’s shooting was justified. Why? Because Grant tried to perform a citizen’s arrest.
“She didn’t shoot you over chicken. She shot you because you were ILLEGALLY restraining her,” one fan argued.
“Shame on him for littering; those bones could have been put into a trash bag. However, the woman was way out of line, especially with shooting someone for it,” a second comment read.
“Him getting shot was his own damn fault,” this fan slammed. “When they find her, she’s going to say he attacked her. If he was in the car when she tried slashing his tires, he should’ve just ran over her a**.”
“Both are crazy, but I cannot feel pity for a nasty man littering,” this commenter wrote.
As of this writing, the Seattle police haven’t announced any arrests. However, Steve Grant has set up a GoFundMe to cover his medical bills.
