The filmmaking business is no stranger to going back and having to redo things. Secret Invasion is having reshoots in London with a new writer. The news was mentioned by actor Christopher McDonald as he was being interviewed by Awards Focus for his role in the hit HBO series Hacks, which was renewed for a third season earlier in the year. The actor gave praise to director Ali Selim (The Looming Tower), and while he did this, he briefly mentioned how they were going to London to shoot “additional scenes” along with the redone scenes to make “the story better.”
“The director [of Secret Invasion] Ali Selim is fantastic, and it’s a delight to play this storyline because it’s really, really good. We’re actually heading back to London on Tuesday to do additional scenes. They’re doing reshoots in a way that’s making the story better. Apparently, there’s a new writer in there. He’s amped it up, and the series is going so much deeper than before.”
While Secret Invasion reshoots tomorrow (August 2), that does question the mystery writer’s identity. For now, we know creator Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot) is the lead writer.

In addition to the reveal of the Secret Invasion reshoots, McDonald gave a hint about his character. All he said was that he could “sneak in and out of any storyline in the Marvel universe.” Since the series is centered on Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) tracking down the shape-shifting aliens, the Skrulls, it sounds like McDonald might be a Skrull. It would at least work out for him to disguise himself to hop away, and if Marvel wanted him back, he could reveal his identity.
Secret Invasion is set up to have one of the biggest casts of the Marvel Disney Plus series. Jackson returns with Ben Mendelsohn (Captain Marvel) as Talos, Martin Freeman (Fargo) as Everett Ross, Cobie Smulders (American Crime Story) as Maria Hill, and Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine. The list of newcomers to the MCU is quite large for the series. Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami), and Carmen Ejogo (Your Honor) will all join the MCU.
Secret Invasion releases on Disney Plus in 2023 as a part of Phase 5.
