It would be absurd to try and carry around your SEGA Master System, SEGA Genesis, SEGA Saturn and SEGA Dreamcast with you wherever you go. This scenario is a little more likely now with the announcement of SEGA Forever, where the storied publisher is offering many of its classic titles for free on mobile. The first batch of games to be released on SEGA Forever for iOS and Android are:
Sonic the Hedgehog
Altered Beast
Phantasy Star II
Comix Aone
Kid Chameleon
SEGA says that additional games will be released every two weeks and support Bluetooth controllers, leaderboards and game saves to the cloud. While SEGA Forever is free it does support advertisements on the platform. If you want to get your Altered Beast on without any ads then each individual title can be purchased for $1.99.
While there is no word on what other titles will be upcoming to Sega Forever, the launch trailer shows all of the SEGA systems that have been released throughout the years. We also see characters from classics such as: Golden Axe, Sonic and Knuckles, Hang On, Ecco the Dolphin, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, and much more.
On a personal note, I would vote for the inclusion of Dreamcast classics SEGA Pro Bass Fishing and Crazy Taxi. Both titles were excellent party games that never got old when a bunch of friends gathered to do a little gaming. Kudos also to SEGA Pro Bass Fishing for being the only fishing video game ever that was actually exciting to play. The Dreamcast system is also where the 2K series of sports titles first appeared eighteen years ago. While some of these franchises didn’t make it in the long run (NHL 2K, NFL 2K) NBA 2K has come from these humble roots to be the biggest basketball title on the planet.
