Selena Gomez‘s parenting skills are under a microscope. In a recent appearance, the singer defended her decision to open up about her infertility struggles. While passionately explaining her reason, Gomez went into an expletive rant without considering her younger sister Gracie’s presence.
At the Women in Film Dinner, the Disney alum sat next to Gracie as she spoke to the room about the “power in being vulnerable.” She explained that seeking help and opening up about struggles is not “shameful” and doesn’t make her a victim. Particularly addressing her recent confession that she can’t carry children of her own, Gomez fiercely declared, as seen in a viral clip:
So yeah I shared that I can’t carry a child. Yeah I shared I have bipolar. F*CK OFF! That’s what my life is. That’s who I am. That’s why I like to be honest. Because everyone is going through something.”
The Rare Beauty founder advised Gracie and the rest of the room not to “ever let anyone tell you that you’re not a good person” before concluding, “Screw anyone who tells you you’re a victim. You’re a survivor in my book.”
Selena Gomez’s Speech Earns Mixed Reactions From Fans
While Gomez’s heated speech had a good message, some fans couldn’t ignore her use of a swear word in the presence of a minor. “Selena, there’s a child next to you. LANGUAGE,” warned one user. Another comment read, “I dont understand the ‘f**k off.’” However, Selenators were quick to defend their idol. “She will learn these words anyway,” a fan said of Gracie while excusing Gomez. Another response read, “That child is her sister. I am sure she’s spoken this way around her before, lol.”
Gomez confessed her fertility troubles to Vanity Fair earlier this month. “I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children,” she told the publication. “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
