Selena Gomez is standing up for herself. In a new interview with TIME, the singer opened up about the criticism over her dating Benny Blanco. She told the publication that she knows not everyone approves of her latest boyfriend. However, instead of giving in to critics and breaking up with him, Gomez said the hate has only made her even more protective of her relationship with the record producer.
She explained:
I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that he’s not going anywhere any time soon.

Ever since Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco confirmed they were an item in December 2023, the actress has received thousands of comments about how she apparently “downgraded” by dating him. Although criticism from trolls was expected, Gomez told Time that a lot of the negativity has been from her own fans.
Gomez admitted having mixed feelings about the situation. Of course, she’s grateful to fans for everything they’ve done for her over the years. However, that doesn’t mean they have a right to share their opinions about her love life.
My own fans, who I adore and feel like have shaped who I am, will say the most hurtful things to me about how I live my life.

Thankfully, Gomez isn’t letting the negativity get to her and Blanco is the same way. The Disney Channel alum praised her boyfriend for having the “strength” to drown out all the “noise” online. Since it’s not easy dating in the public eye, the actress has learned to “cherish” every moment with the musician.
Despite all of the drama surrounding their relationship, Gomez and Blanco continue to fall more in love with each other each day. Soon, they’ll celebrate their first anniversary as a couple.
