Selena Gomez was swiftly defended after a wave of body-shaming comments cruelly targeted her for her weight. In September 2021, the singer and actress put on a stylish display as she headed out for dinner in NYC, looking stunning in a ribbed orange dress that perfectly flattered her curvy frame.
When The Daily Mail circulated the photos, early comments tormented the star, who suffers from Lupus, with many suggesting that she was overweight and had “packed on the pounds.” Fortunately, with time, these comments were downvoted and replaced with supportive remarks. Selena has bravely addressed her fluctuating weight, confirming that the medication she takes to manage her autoimmune condition can affect her shape.
Selena Gomez Stuns In Dinner Dress And Heels
Looking all dolled up as she strutted down a sidewalk, Selena turned heads in her low-cut, figure-hugging dress.
Choosing a warm shade of orange as she rocked a rib-knit midi number, the 31-year-old highlighted her hourglass waistline, looking incredible in light tan heels while even braving a sheer side to the dress.
Sporting her wavy brown locks down, Selena looked impossibly glam, wearing matte foundation and pale orange eyeshadow, plus a gorgeous pale lip. Selena reminded the cameras just why she’s running a makeup empire, and you can shop her best-selling Rare Beauty below!
Told She Has A ‘Stomach’ And Gained ‘Weight’
The initial remarks are still live. “She looks a bit puffy in the face, and fat,” one user replied. Selena has expressly stated that the medication she takes can make her retain water.
“She is really putting on the pounds,” another said, with a third replying that Selena had put on “weight.” Fans weren’t going to tolerate the shaming, though. Defending the Texan, one user gained likes for saying:
“That’s a rad dress. And to those commenting on her weight #1) classless #2) she has shared repeatedly that she has an autoimmune disease that affects her. I can only guess that, for some, body shaming others makes them feel better about their own bodies.”
Others also proved supportive, with one fan gaining over 200 likes for reminding the body-shamers that Gomez “has underlying health conditions.”
In 2017, Selena underwent a life-saving kidney transplant because of her Lupus. The singer also suffers from anxiety and depression and has proved open and honest about managing her mental health. Rare Beauty even donates 1% of all profits to helping mental health causes.
Selena hasn’t let her health issues get in the way of her life, and that includes being all loved up with boyfriend Benny Blanco, 36.
