Selena Gomez reacts to the nationwide deportations of immigrants in a heartfelt video, but crying in front of a camera earns her criticism. On Sunday, Donald Trump’s administration launched a nationwide immigration enforcement raid, apprehending up to 956 undocumented people, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. These nationwide apprehensions, championed by the ICE and other Justice Department agencies, swept through Chicago, Texas, Georgia, Colorado, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico, among other states, over the weekend. The raids continued through Monday, with more arrests made, per the ICE records.
However, many have condemned the drastic efforts to put a check on immigrants, asking the Trump administration to exercise mercy. Among those who have addressed the ICE raids is singer and actress Selena Gomez.
Selena Gomez Sobs Over Nationwide Deportations of Mexican Immigrants
The Mexican-American star took to Instagram on Monday to share a video of herself lamenting the mass deportations amid sobs. In the clip, a visibly shaken Selena Gomez appeared flushed from intense crying as she said through her sobs,
“I just want to say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”
Selena Gomez’s crying video quickly gained traction on the gram, with most people sympathizing with the star. Meanwhile, some netizens slammed the actress’s outward show of devastation, with MAGA supporters condemning her for being against the nation’s progress by aligning with immigrants and “illegal criminals.” Many also mocked the actress’ crying video, dismissing it as “poor acting.” The backlash prompted the star to delete the clip from her social media page moments later.
Selena Gomez then shared a follow-up story that made clear her reasons for deleting the crying video of herself lamenting the deportations. She wrote,
“Apparently, It’s Not OK to show Empathy for People.”
Sam Parker Calls For Gomez’s Deportation After Emotional Post
U.S. Senate candidate Sam Parker was among the first high-profile figures to react to the video of Selena Gomez crying over the nationwide Deportations. Via an alternate account, the failed U.S. senator tweeted,
“Selena Gomez picked illegals over America b/c she’s the 3rd gen descendant of Mexican illegals who received citizenship in the ’87 Amnesty. She has an entitlement attitude toward America, like her illegal g’parents. Maybe Selena should be deported too?”
Sam Parker doubled down on his deportation threat, taking to his campaign account to call for her deportation. He tweeted,
“Deport Selena Gomez.”
Interestingly, many fans reechoed Sam Parker’s words, urging the actress to join “her people” in Mexico if she cared so much. Selena Gomez has since reacted to Parker’s comments as well, calling out his threat in a cynical post. She shared via Instagram stories,
“Oh Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat.”
Gomez’s response to Parker, with a mix of humor and cynicism, gave her the reigns once gained after her initial mockery. Many have since praised her dignified reaction, declaring her the undisputed winner in the political crossfire. As for her next move towards keeping her promise to “try everything” she could for the Mexican deportees, time will tell.
