Sense8, the Netflix original science fiction drama series, was abruptly canceled after just two seasons at the beginning of the month. After an outpouring of fan support for the series, Netflix announced that the show would have one final episode to air, scheduled to come out sometime next year. This two-hour finale will hopefully answer a lot of the lingering questions and let the show reach a satisfying conclusion. Netflix announced the two-hour finale through this video:

In addition, one of the creators of the series, Lana Wachowski, posted the following letter to fans of the series:

Death doesn't let you say goodbye. 2 hour finale episode in the works. Tell your cluster. pic.twitter.com/GHZgGuHwS0

Sense8 was created by the Wachowski sisters, Lana and Lilly (most famous for the Matrix trilogy), as well as J. Michael Straczynski (most famous for Babylon 5). It follows a group of eight strangers from around the world called “sensates,” who one day are linked psychically. They gain the ability to communicate across the world with one another, see through each others’ eyes, and share their talents and emotions. They must learn to deal with this new power, helping one another and avoiding shadowy figures who mean them harm.

The show was generally well received and dealt with a lot of hot-button issues such as sexuality, gender identity, and religion. We quite liked the first season, writing about the message of acceptance that Sense8 preaches: “What’s great about Sense8 is that they managed to weave this message into the main theme of the show, which is about human beings connecting beyond the boundaries of nationality, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or any of the other things that normally divide us as a species.”

The two-hour finale episode of Sense8 will release sometime in 2018. You can catch up on the two season run if you are a Netflix subscriber.
