Season 2 of Severance on Apple TV has finally finished filming over a year and a half after production started, which means the release date is not far. The news comes from the costume designer of the show, Carol Deelay, who shared an image of the clapper board on social media and the caption “It’s a wrap on season 2.”
Severance was renewed for season 2 before the last episode of the first season even came out, in April 2022. Filming then began around October 2022, and suffered a massive delay in the middle due to the writer strikes. Filming halted completely in May 2023, and remained that way until January 2024, which caused a massive delay in production.
Severance Season 2 Wraps Up Filming
Season 1 of the show ended at such a cliffhanger that fans have been having a hard time waiting for Ben Stiller’s show’s continuation. For the uninitiated, Severance is based on the idea of a person’s mind being divided surgically, allowing them to keep their work and personal life separated. This means work secrets are safe and won’t ever be leaked, and on the flip side, the version on the outside won’t ever have to stress about work.
The protagonist of the show, Mark, played by Adam Scott, is one such severed employee at Lumon Industries, the company that invented the procedure. Their normal lives start to fall apart when they begin to question the ethical implications of such a procedure, and how limiting a human being to only a work life is similar to jailing them from birth.
Season 1 left many burning questions that should be addressed in season 2 of Severance, but details of the follow-up season are very limited. What we do know for sure is that a lot of new characters will be added to the show, expanding the limited, yet well fleshed out cast, of season 1. Some of those new actors are Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Gwendoline Christie, and Merritt Wever.
Although no release date has been confirmed, the first season was released a few months after filming concluded, which means Severance season 2 could make it out in late 2024.
