Until now, the Orcs that will inhabit the open world in Middle Earth: Shadow of War are the only monsters we have heard about. That makes a lot of sense as the nemesis system from Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor was near-universally praised, and the sequel promises to build upon this game mechanic. As any fan of The Lord of the Rings knows though, there are many more dangers in the Tolkien world than those green ugly orcs. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a brief trailer to give a taste of the other monstrous dangers that will prowl Mordor.
Tolkien fans are sure to delight at the numerous ghastly beasts featured in a mere 15 seconds of footage from Middle Earth: Shadow of War. In the trailer’s limited time we see the Balrog Tar Goroth. This Balrog is featured in the game’s Mithril Edition as a 12-inch statue fighting Carnan Drake. The trailer features other fire-breathing drakes, gruages, caragors, spiders, and Ghûls. Lastly, we get to set eyes on Carnán, “the mysterious spirit of nature who can take the form of vicious creatures herself.”
If all of those monster names are Greek to you, no worries. All you really need to know is that these monsters will be inhabiting the expansive open world of Mordor in Middle Earth: Shadow of War. This means that you will have to keep one eye open at all times to avoid these many monsters when necessary. Gamers will get a chance to cross paths with the evil Balrog, Carnán and more when it releases October 10, 2017.
Shadow of War will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC and is being developed by Monolith Productions. The developer has garnered prior accolades for their work on titles such as F.E.A.R., the Condemned series and The Operative: No One Lives Forever.
