There is so much technology today that allows people to secretly record others without their consent. Unfortunately, some of this tech even comes from well-respected brands releasing new features without fully considering how malicious users might exploit them.

A woman from Long Island, New York, shared a terrifying experience she had at a Planet Fitness. She explained that a man approached her at the gym and asked for her Instagram handle. What she didn’t know at the time was far more disturbing. Later, she discovered that he had secretly recorded her and allegedly had dozens of similar videos of other women he had approached in the exact same way.

The above video was posted to the TikTok account @clair.thecreator, which belongs to a woman named Claire. There are only a handful of other videos on the profile, though this is the one that has gathered the most attention. According to the video, Claire was working out at a local Planet Fitness in Long Island when she was suddenly approached by a man.

She tried to ignore the man, who was trying to get her Instagram information so he can send her a friend request. Claire decided to give the man her information, hoping it would make him go away, but that’s just where the chaos starts. Several hours later, she went home and decided to accept the friend request and see the content the man was posting.

This is when Claire discovered that this man had been recording her with his RayBan Meta glasses, which she was not aware of at the time, and posted it to Instagram. She alleges that there were tons of other videos of him doing the exact same thing to other women, recording their interactions after he had approached them at a gym.

Plenty of people jumped into the comments to express their frustration with the widespread misuse of Meta glasses. To many viewers, the device seems to be used for this exact purpose far too often. Some of the top comments said things like, “Meta glasses are the worst invention to happen in a long time,” and “Meta glasses should be illegal.”

Commentators also discovered the man’s account, @Nypdlovesme on Instagram, a supposed police trainer in the New York area. The particular video with Claire in it is still available to watch at the time of writing this, as well as various other videos of him being creepy towards women minding their own business.

Hopefully, if this man is actually working with the NYPD, he will be accosted and arrested for breach of peace. It’s insane how long he’s been able to keep this behavior up.
