Marvel’s Gang War event is taking its toll on Shang-Chi. The Marvel hero is about to find himself without his iconic Ten Rings as the gangs of New York threaten to unleash war on the city. The Gang War spinoff, Deadly Hands of Kung Fu, finds Shang-Chi in charge of the once-evil Five Weapons Society. The organization and the rest of Chinatown are being overrun by the ongoing Marvel event. As Shang-Chi works to keep the peace, someone from the inside pulls a power play that leaves the hero without his weapons and the city in peril.
Shang-Chi’s Deadly Hands Of Kung Fu
Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #1 comes from Greg Pak, Caio Majado, and Jim Campbell. The spinoff focuses on Shang-Chi and his role in Gang Wars. While the war, which spilled out of the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, has yet to reach Chinatown, many want Shang-Chi to take the offense. As the leader of his father’s Five Weapons Society, many who serve him want him to take advantage of the chaos. However, Shang-Chi remains neutral as the war has yet to interfere with Chinatown and his business.
However, when Lady Yulan and her vampires attempt an invasion, Shang-Chi easily beats them back. This puts many at ease with the Master of Kung Fu’s motives, though some still question his loyalty and ability. One such questioner is Captain Feng. When Shang-Chi is injured in a battle against Mister Negative, Feng uses the opportunity to make their move. They imprison the Ten Rings and attempt to kill Shang-Chi. While he easily overcomes the attempt, the Ten Rings remain imprisoned.
Gang Wars
The reason Shang-Chi is about to find out if he can be a hero without his signature weapon began in Amazing Spider-Man. After chaos ensued at the wedding of Tombstone’s daughter, the gangs of New York City found themselves on the brink of war. These gangs brought their fight to the streets, and now many of Marvel’s heroes are working to keep this war from endangering the innocents. To combat this gang war, Spider-Man recruited many friends and allies. This has led to several spinoffs, miniseries, and one-shots, like Shang-Chi’s Deadly Hands of Kung Fu.
