Fences may look harmless, but they can turn dangerous in an instant. One woman in Newton, Massachusetts, learned this the hard way when a simple shortcut turned into a painful ordeal. It all began when the woman attempted to hop over a low black iron fence. At first glance, the fence did not look particularly challenging, and she even managed to swing her right leg over without much trouble. But as she shifted her weight, her foot struck the edge of the gate, throwing her off balance.
In an instant, the Newton woman stumbled forward, and the situation quickly took a brutal turn. Her leg slipped against the sharp metal, and before she could regain her footing, her right calf became impaled on one of the fence’s pointed ends. A video of the incident, shared on social media, shows her grimacing in pain as she struggled to free herself. Each movement only seemed to make things worse, the metal digging deeper as she twisted and pulled. She grabbed at the fence, tried lifting her leg, even tugged at it with both hands, but nothing worked. Instead, her frantic attempts only risked widening the gash.
Finally, a passerby rushed over to help. With their assistance, the woman was carefully lifted free from the fence’s grip, bringing an end to her agonizing ordeal.
Later, the Newton woman shared the video recording on TikTok, where it quickly gained widespread attention. Many viewers winced at the sight of her calf being impaled, some even admitting they had to look away because it was too painful to watch.
Others were less sympathetic, pointing out that the whole situation could have been avoided if she had simply used the proper path instead of attempting to climb over. “The gate is literally right next to it, unlocked. What an idiot 💀” one user commented.
There was also concern over the severity of the wound. Several people remarked that the struggle to pull herself free likely made the injury worse by deepening and widening the gash. “The way she kept moving her leg around just made me cringe. That wound’s gonna be nasty,” another viewer noted.
Some commenters shifted the conversation toward body weight and agility, suggesting that her fall might have been less severe if she had been more nimble. “Good god, I’m glad I’m at least somewhat athletic and not overweight, so my chances of being impaled on a two-foot fence are dramatically lowered,” wrote one user.
Not everyone, however, blamed the woman. A few criticized the fence itself, arguing that it posed an unnecessary hazard. “This fence is a life hazard and shouldn’t even exist. Even if you don’t climb over it, you’re one misstep away from impaling your skull if you trip near it. It’s way too short to stop anyone and way too dangerous to be left like that,” one frustrated commenter wrote.
