When you approach the High Price to Pay quest, you’ll have choices: Should you defend the Lodge or go to the Eye in Starfield? Some NPCs are in trouble, and they need some assistance. You can go to the Eye, where you will leave the crew behind and gather the attack survivors. Alternatively, you can choose to stick around and defend the Lodge from the incoming attack, where you can participate in a boss fight and then escape with the rest of your crew back to your ship. So, the question still stands. Should you defend the Lodge or go to the Eye in Starfield? That’s up to you to decide, but we’ll let you know how each choice plays out.
Starfield: Defend the Lodge in High Price to Pay
First, the Hunter will speak, saying that he is already on his way to you, that you can say goodbye to your friends, and he’ll be there shortly. If you defend the Lodge rather than going to the Eye, Sam will announce that you should take cover, that they’ll be here soon.
Soon, you’ll have a new objective: to check on Walter, who is just upstairs. As you approach him, you’ll find the Hunter standing behind him. He appears as a Level 30 boss that you can fight. Throughout the fight, you hold off the Hunter until your quest objective updates to Escape the Lodge. Follow the hallway down some stairs and into the basement area, where your objective will be updated again. Now, you must go to your ship.
Once you board your ship and travel to the Eye, your companion, Sam, will be dead when you arrive, and his daughter will be distraught. However, you will receive the Unrestrained Vengeance special weapon pictured above if you fight the boss and take his health down far enough for him to run away.
Starfield: Go to the Eye in High Price to Pay
Should you choose to go to the Eye rather than defending the Lodge in Starfield, things will play out differently. As you approach the doors, Barrett will warn you that after you have left, they will barricade them so you can’t get back in. Say that you are going when he speaks to you, then exit through the doors to New Atlantis.
Head to your Starmap, then still within Alpha Centauri, travel to The Eye, and dock there when you approach and board The Eye. When you head inside, you’ll quickly find Sam sitting on the ground, injured. Farther inside The Eye, you can discover Andreja, Sarah Morgan, and Vladimir Sall.
Head back to New Atlantis and back into the Lodge, where you previously left Barrett and the others. Vasco is in rough shape but not critically damaged. He tells you that Noel escaped with the artifacts while everyone else tried to hold off the Hunter, who was able to utilize some cloaking. Sam will mourn Barrett, who dies in the attack.
Your next objective is to travel to the Well, where the Hunter will appear again. This time, you can either fight him or escape to your ship with everybody. If you decide to fight the Hunter this time, you will also receive the special weapon awarded at the end of the first choice.
