The first episode ofย The Expanse: A Telltale Series puts someone else’s life in your hands as you decide to save Captain Cox or space him. Telltale Games and Deck Nine team up for this epic space adventure, and the pair bring their usual choice-centered game options into play. But it’s not easy to decide which choices carry more weight. Let’s get into the circumstances surrounding Captain Cox so you can better determine if you want to spare his life. It stands to reason that there will be spoilers.

The Expanse: A Telltale Seriesย is a prequel to the popular science fiction series. You don’t need to understand the show to play the game, but fans ofย The Expanseย may recognize some callbacks to the show within the game. Anyone who appreciates choice-based games can find something to enjoy regardless.

Some caution is necessary. If you’ve ever played a Telltale Game like The Walking Dead or Wolf Among Us, you know that even the smallest choices can become impactful. So, it’s no surprise that the choice to save or space Captain Cox in The Expanse causes some hesitation.

Although The Expanse Episode 1 isn’t that long, plenty happens to leave players in anticipation. And a lot of it stems from a betrayal. Captain Cox sets up Drummer to die, lying to the crew until she reveals herself alive. From there, the crew takes Drummer’s side, subduing the Captain. Now, Drummer directs them to take Captain Cox to the airlock, setting up the choice to space or save him in The Expanse.

He’ll explain everything (so far) to Drummer once he’s in the airlock. Whether you want to take him at his word and accept his pleas are up to you.

Choice – Save Captain Cox

In The Expanse, you can save Captain Cox despite his betrayal and nasty attitude toward the crew. If you spare him, he’s thrown in the brig. Since we’re just in the first episode, it’s unclear if there are long-lasting consequences. Captain Cox may give us more useful information since we can talk to him further. He might even help out if the chance presents itself in the future.

Choice – Space Captain Cox

Of course, you can space Captain Cox inย The Expanseย instead. It’s not like he doesn’t deserve such treatment after trying to kill Drummer, lying about it, and confessing that he wanted all the profits for himself. Spacing him means an abrupt end to his potential story. There are no immediate drawbacks to executing Cox. There’s a chance this may come back to bite us if Cox knew more than what he said in the airlock. Or perhaps his skills may come in handy later on.
