Brave Wave Productions this week announced it will be releasing Shovel Knight The Definitive Soundtrack in limited edition CD and vinyl formats. This release is the second entry in their Generation Series, which began in 2015 with the very well-received Street Fighter II The Definitive Soundtrack. This new collection features beautiful custom artwork by Mega Man and Pokémon illustrator Hitoshi Ariga, composer commentary from Jake “virt” Kaufman and Manami Matsumae, and of course, the soundtrack from the popular Yacht Club Games game, Shovel Knight (you can check out our review for Shovel Knight here).
“We’ve been working on a number of retro game soundtracks since the release of our Street Fighter II restoration, but it was important for us to follow up that iconic soundtrack with a more contemporary one. Our intent is to emphasize the importance of promoting quality game music, and not just retro game music. Twenty years from now, we will look back and wonder how Jake Kaufman was able to flex the ancient VRC6 chip to its furthest limit.” – Mohammed Taher, Creative Director at Brave Wave Productions
In addition to to the two-disc compact disc and double-LP releases, Brave Wave Productions is offering two exclusive posters by Hitoshi Ariga. To create his custom artwork for the soundtrack collection and posters, Ariga followed on his tradition when drawing Mega Man by playing the Shovel Knight game in full beforehand, paying close attention to the game’s world and characters. You can learn more about Shovel Knight The Definitive Soundtrack and the Generation Series by taking a trip to the official website. For those wanting to purchase Shovel Knight The Definitive Soundtrack, it is currently available for pre-order, and you can head here for the Limited Edition CD, or here for the double-LP.
