Singer-songwriter Lisa Marie Presley’s cause of death has been revealed as a bowel obstruction. The singer-songwriter and daughter of Elvis Presley died unexpectedly in January after going into cardiac arrest. The cause of her death was a bowel obstruction that resulted from scar tissue from bariatric surgery. This type of surgery is known as gastric bypass and is a weight-loss surgery that alters how the stomach and small intestine handle consumed foods. It is known that Presley took drastic measures to lose weight in the months leading to her death. However, the coroner claims that the scar tissue leading to her fatal bowel obstruction was from a surgery she underwent years ago.
Lisa Marie Presley’s Death Was Due to Bowel Obstruction From Weight-Loss Surgery
Lisa Marie Presley’s life was loaded with numerous hardships. She was the only daughter of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, and she lost him when she was only nine years old. She also had four marriages, all of which failed. These included her highly-publicized marriage to Michael Jackson and her marriage to actor Nicholas Cage.
She had also struggled with a painkiller and opioid addiction after they were prescribed to her in 2008. She suffered what may have been her most significant blow in 2020 when her son, Benjamin Keough, committed suicide at 27. But with all her troubles, the singer-songwriter lost her life to weight-loss surgery complications.
And sadly, Lisa Marie Presley is not the only one whose death was caused by weight-loss surgery. One in 100 gastric bypass patients can die shortly after surgery. The singer-songwriter, who was particularly heavy, is only one example of a person whose death can be attributed to a dangerous surgery intended for those in desperate situations.
Sadly, singer-songwriter Lisa Marie Presley’s death must serve as a cautionary example of how appearances for fame’s sake can be deadly.
