A 31-year-old single mother in Florida says she left a Chase Bank branch in tears after feeling overwhelmed and disrespected by staff members while trying to get help for her daughter. The woman shared her story in a TikTok video, explaining that she had gone to the bank’s location on Congress Avenue in West Palm Beach to obtain a notary for paperwork related to her daughter’s early childhood enrollment, which she said was necessary to secure childcare.

I’m not usually this sensitive or emotional. But I’m in a very tender season of my life, and being laughed at when I needed professionalism and empathy pushed me over the edge. What happened at Chase Bank today was unnecessary and hurtful. You never know what someone is carrying kindness goes a long way do better! #chasebank #badexperience #storytime #horrible

When she entered the bank, she noticed about four employees were sitting behind the glass. As soon as they saw her walk in, she claimed they began chuckling among themselves. At first, she said she could not understand what they were laughing about, especially since she appeared to be the only customer inside the branch at the time.

Still, she approached one of the tellers, a female employee, who looked up at her and reacted by saying, “Oh, wow.” The woman said she did not immediately question the comment but internally assumed it may have been related to her height, as she stands between 6’1½ and 6’2. “In my head, that’s what I’m thinking,” she explained. “Everybody’s like, oh, she’s tall.”

More on What Happened

When the woman told the employee why she had come to the bank and asked for a notary, the worker reportedly told her that she was busy and could not assist her at that moment. Shortly after, another employee, a male teller, motioned for her to come over to his window. She said she walked over, believing he was going to help her.

However, once she reached his station, the man looked over at another coworker, who began laughing. A second coworker sitting on his other side also started laughing, and the woman said they all made eye contact with one another while doing so. Although she felt uncomfortable, she tried to ignore it and proceed with her request.

She told the man that she did not have her bank card with her but still needed a notary. While he began asking her for her phone number, she said she struggled to provide it correctly. Because the laughter from the surrounding employees continued to bother her, she asked him what was funny. The teller did not respond to her question.

It Became Too Much for Her to Handle

Frustrated by the situation, the woman decided to leave. As she walked out, she said she turned back and told them, “How [expletive] rude are you? I’m going through so much right now.” In her TikTok video, the woman even became emotional while recounting the experience. She explained that if the employees had known what she was dealing with personally, she believed they would not have behaved the way they did. “I’m here to get a notary,” she said tearfully. “Do your job. Give me a notary. You don’t have to be laughing back and forth with your friends.”

The woman said she wanted to file a complaint immediately but felt too overwhelmed at the time to do so. “I’m just so sensitive these days,” she said. “The little things irritate me.” She later shared an update explaining that she was able to get the notary completed elsewhere “at no cost” and that she has since emailed the company directly to report what happened. She said she is now waiting for a response.

Netizens React to the Florida Mom’s Story

After hearing the woman’s account, several people left negative reviews for the bank, describing the staff as “completely unprofessional,” “extremely rude,” and “insensitive.”

Replying to @Naturelove Update: I’ve emailed the company directly to address what happened, and we’ll see how they choose to respond. I truly appreciate everyone who took the time to support me and leave a review. Thankfully, I was able to get the notary done elsewhere at no cost, and my day ended on a much better note. Thank you all for the kindness. #KindnessMatters #KindnessCostsNothing #chasebank #ProfessionalismMatters

In the comments section under her post, many netizens expressed anger over what she said happened to her. “Grown adults !!! 😒 Be so for real,” one person wrote. Another added, “High school never ends, im so sorry this happened to you 🥺.” A third commented, “It’s OK to feel sad and cry. My mom always told me crying cleans the soul. People are just mean, rude and disrespectful, but don’t let them get you down.”

A few people suggested the employees may not have been laughing at her at all, with one writing, “I’m sorry!! If it helps, I highly doubt they were talking about you. Usually when people do all that at work, it’s from messing/joking around with each other and then having to act professional when a customer walks in.”
