One question few people ask ICE agents is whether they actually enjoy what they do. Most take pride in detaining people, and others are blatantly pleased with brutal apprehensions. But when one Oregon agent was asked whether he enjoyed what he was doing, his answer was shocking. Not only was he alarmingly honest, but he couldn’t even provide a reason for why this was his career purpose. And now, viewers are watching the interaction in disbelief.
“This isn’t my favorite thing to do in the world,” the ICE agent tells whoever is filming him during a detainment stop. “Dude, you can do literally anything,” one replies. Another says, “You seem like you have a moral compass. Don’t do it, bro. He doesn’t even seem like he likes doing it,” as they point to another agent in the back.
“It is what it is,” the ICE agent responds to everyone in the crowd. This sets several people off, who accuse the agents of kidnapping innocent children and separating families. “Was the $50k worth it?” One protestor shouts. As the conversation goes on, the agent eventually says, “I get your point of view, guys, I get it.” One protestor, obviously frustrated, calls him a nazi and tells him to “get educated.” At one point, the agent admits that he doesn’t even like being an ICE agent. “I didn’t even vote for Trump,” he says before walking away.
Viewers go off in the comments, implying the agent took the job solely for the monetary incentive. “I mean, look at the ads we get on Reddit, you show someone a $30,000 sign on bonus and poof. There goes their ‘morals,'” one Reddit user says. “Step one, make people more financially desperate; step two, divert billions of dollars to hire a new army of financially desperate people willing to ignore their conscience out of survival,” another replies.
Others commented on the agent’s appearance, noting that they don’t even pay enough to provide uniforms. “$100 billion budget and they equip the Gestapo from Temu,” one user jokes. Another adds, “Good Lord, did he get his props off a Reno 911 episode?”
