There has been no shortage of Donald Trump this year. The newly elected U.S. president is stirring controversy by appointing individuals to key government positions despite their glaring lack of qualifications. Now, it appears that probationary agency staff within the Small Business Administration were wrongfully terminated. Fortunately, they all got their jobs back only to be told that they actually were fired the very next day. Employees received an email that contained an unsigned termination form only to be bombarded with yet another email apologizing for the error.
“Probationary employees across the Small Business Administration may have received an unsigned notice of employment termination. Please be advised that this draft letter (see attached) was sent in error – and as such, it is not currently in effect. If you are in receipt of the initial notice, your employment has not been terminated as was erroneously indicated in the initial notice.”
For context, those who are a part of the probationary staff have typically only been employed for a year or less. This period of time is to help determine their eligibility for various other government positions. However, with this termination, many of these employees will essentially need to start their careers again.
Unfortunately, this error with the Small Business Administration is only one of many the Trump administration has made in the last month. In fact, the administration had tried to tackle various union contracts alongside sending out mass resignations in an effort to minimize government workforce and limit employment to necessary positions. A newly created government force, the Administration for Government Efficiancy, was even created to aid in addressing this issue with none other than Elon Musk at its helm.
Hopefully, these mass agency staff layoffs and resignations won’t backfire on the U.S. government. At the end of the day, Donald Trump is bringing more and more reason to dislike the American government, and it almost seems as though we can only expect more errors and issues in the coming years under his control.
