The long-running late-night comedy show, Saturday Night Live, is returning to NBC on October 2, 2021. Although the SNL season 47 cast is currently uncertain, the hosts for the first four episodes have been announced. According to a report from Deadline, the SNL season 47 opening hosts are Owen Wilson, Kim Kardashian West, Rami Malek, and Jason Sudeikis.
Owen Wilson will kick off the season on October 2. Joining him for the SNL season 47 opening episode is Kacey Musgraves, who serves as the musical guest. The following week — on October 9 — Kim Kardashian West will take over the duties as SNL host with Halsey as the musical guest. Then, on October 16, Rami Malek will host Young Thug as the musical guest. Rounding out the month is former SNL cast member Jason Sudeikis with musical guest Brandi Carlile on October 23.
The creator and executive producer of SNL, Lorne Michaels, previously teased Sudeikis’s appearance at the Emmys last weekend. Sudeikis served as a writer and cast member on the show for 10 years, from 2003 to 2013. However, he did return during the 2019-2020 season briefly to play Joe Biden in a few sketches, primarily in the cold opens. Despite this, Sudeikis has never been an SNL host — until the coming SNL season 47 changes that.
Likewise, Owen Wilson, Kim Kardashian West, and Rami Malek have never served as a prior SNL host. However, Wilson has appeared on the show alongside Ben Stiller to reprise his Zoolander character back in 2016. Kardashian West and Malek have been parodied by the show but have never appeared or hosted. The SNL season 47 opening will allow each of these individuals to take the reins of the iconic TV show and test their hosting and comedic abilities.
