Over the last few years, several instances have made me genuinely ask myself, “Are we living in a Bizarro world?” However, I feel as though nothing could have prepared me for the knowledge of Snoop Dogg performing as a DJ at President-Elect Donald Trump’s pre-inauguration event in Washington, DC. The rapper turned host of several shows, including Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner, which he co-hosts with longtime collaborator Martha Stewart, was DJing for the guests at the event, including songs like Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds (Don’t Worry About a Thing).
Snoop’s actions have many scratching their heads, as it isn’t news that the platinum record winner doesn’t really like Donald Trump. There have been several instances over the last two decades where Snoop Dogg has publicly displayed his disdain for the business mogul, even attending a roast directed at Trump in 2011. The latest mention of Trump in a negative light by Snoop was in his 2017 music video for Lavender, where the President-elect is depicted as a clown and then shot in the head.
However, it seems like the rapper has decided to let bygones be bygones. Considering that he performed at all is a great sign of his respect for Trump. It’s been known that Snoop won’t attend or approve of things he isn’t entirely on board with. In fact, he made a special guest appearance at the 10th anniversary of The Game Awards in 2024 as a result of his continued support of games, content creators, studios, and more within the gaming industry. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, he reflected on his change of heart,
“Donald Trump? … He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris. So, I have nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump.”
It’s unclear to what extent the rapper will continue to support Donald Trump throughout his time in office. Ideally, it would only be in the capacity of DJing or hosting events in his honor. We will just have to see how their friendship plays out over the next four years.
