Sofia Vergara is a very humble, kind figure in Hollywood; that said, it’s quite rare to see her have a moment outside her smiley disposition. That’s why fans were surprised to see the actress get a little confrontational in a recent interview. Vergara was in the midst of an interview for her newest mini-series, Griselda — a crime-drama where she portrays drug cartel leader Griselda Blanco — when the interview tried to poke fun at her. The skilled actress was quick to let him know he wasn’t funny at all.
Vergara Almost Didn’t Catch the Joke
Host Pablo Motos was interviewing Sofia Vergara for Spain-based talk show El Hormiguero, the two were discussing her time on Modern Family when Motos mocked the way Vergara speaks English.
Motos sarcastically asked,
“How do you say Modern Family?”
The actress was perplexed by the question at first — until she realized what Motos was getting at. Vergara, who is Colombian-born, looked like she was surprised to be getting the comment on a Spanish-language talk show. The looks on her face are priceless as she chooses how to handle the uncomfortable situation.
“I say it wrong? Oh, because you speak better English than me? Ah,” she quipped.
Her Response was a Masterclass in Shutting Down Haters
Pablo Motos looked nervous and tried to get on with the interview, but Vergara wasn’t letting him off the hook so easily.
“How many Emmy nominations do you have in the United States? How many times did they nominate you at the Golden Globes?”
Sofia Vergara asked him these questions while leaning in to hear his response. She playfully smiled at the crowd before moving on, and Motos looked embarrassed as he tried to play the moment off.
Commenters praised the actress for how she handled a moment designed to make her feel bad about herself.
Sofia Vergara has YEARS of clapbacks drafted against every comment still to this day about how she speaks English, it wasn’t funny then and it won’t be funny ever.
