Sombra, the long-anticipated Overwatch character, has finally been revealed. At the opening ceremony for Blizzcon, Blizzard showed this new animated short, Infiltration, that gives a sense of the character’s personality and abilities:

So, Sombra is a hacker with a deadly but kind of goofy personality. She fits in the offense category, but she doesn’t look to be a damage dealer (although her machine pistol looks like it still packs a decent punch). All of her abilities are focused on frustrating opponents and limiting their options. Here’s what Sombra is capable of:
Machine Pistol – Sombra’s primary weapon. It’s fully automatic and fires short range. Sounds very similar to Tracer’s weapons.
Hack – A dual use ability. Sombra can hack health kits, making them useless to the enemy. Even scarier, she can hack her foes, making them incapable of using their abilities for a short time. This sounds like it could be an extremely dangerous ability, especially combined with…
Thermoptic Camo – Sombra turns invisible for a short time, gaining a speed boost as well. Any attack, ability use, or taking damage will drop the camo, meaning this is more useful for getting into positions to strike than escaping a firefight. Invisible heroes are always a tricky balancing act, so hopefully Sombra is not too infuriating to play against.
Translocator – Sombra throws out a beacon that she can teleport to as long as it is active, even in midair. Here’s her escape option. It also has some really tricky offensive capabilities.
EMP – Sombra’s ultimate sounds immensely powerful (a fitting theme for most Overwatch characters). She unleashes a blast of energy “destroying enemy barriers and shields and hacking all opponents caught in the blast.” The EMP sounds like it will be the focus of many last-second point captures.
Overall, Sombra looks like a ton of fun to play, and probably not a lot of fun to play against. She’ll be hitting the public test server within a week, so get your trigger fingers ready. Boop.
