We often hear the phrase, “cops feel they are above the law,” and while it isn’t something that all police officers do, a few in Los Angeles, California, have started to abuse some of their power. Recently, a Reddit user noticed that some police officers, instead of using the designated emergency parking spots they have, prefer to park wherever they please to do their shopping more quickly. Naturally, this has angered many people because the police officers should be the ones respecting the law and setting an example.
Redditor BootyWizardAV shared the image on the Los Angeles subreddit, showcasing a police vehicle parked next to a Costco establishment. However, you can clearly see in the image that there’s a sign that reads, “Emergency vehicle parking only,” meaning that police officers and the fire department are allowed to use it. However, the OP titles the picture saying, “What’s the point of these police-only parking spots if the cops just ignore them?” Which is true. If there are spots for them and no one’s using them, then why park all the way up there?
Some people claim that cops and other government agencies are allowed to park closer to an establishment. What’s the reason? Well, if there’s an emergency, they can leave quickly to respond to it. Yet, that’s what these spots are for. So, in this particular situation, those Los Angeles police officers should’ve used this reserved space instead of parking in that area.
Of course, many Redditors reacted to the situation.
“The cops are above the law, and they know it. So they behave as such.” – GlitteringFlight3259 via Reddit.
Some users claim that it isn’t only police officers who do this. Apparently, no one respects the laws in this Costco.
“I see ppl park there as well besides cops doing it. There has not been one time I’ve been to Costco without someone parked in front of the food area.” – My_Names_Jeff via Reddit.
Even if some claim cops can park there, what’s the point of having these signs? By the looks of it, the emergency parking spot isn’t that far from the building’s entrance. Hopefully, some cops will start using these places because they are there for a reason.
