Yeah, you read that title correctly. In case you haven’t already heard, a new Sonic The Hedgehog trailer just released in Japan. It’s your standard Sonic trailer, with nothing too new outside of Sonic running through the Emerald Hill Zone. When we go in for a closeup, though, he’s a lot smaller than the other trailers showed. On top of that, a scene after shows him offering a sunflower to someone. It cuts out to promotion in Japanese, but regardless, this is something that no doubt no one was expecting.
The picture above is part of a promotional image of Baby Sonic (which you can find the full version of here). The design appears to be a lot giddier and cute than what you saw with the grown-up Sonic. According to the official SEGA Japanese account, Baby Sonic has never been seen in an official game. The live-action version, though seems to be taking a look at Sonic‘s origin, which should be an exciting change of pace. With how strange he looks, though, it might take a while to get used to.
Regardless, this should make the movie a lot more different than most of us expected. Don’t know much about the Sonic The Hedgehog movie itself? It’s an adventure comedy being directed by Jeff Fowler, this being his theatrical debut as a filmmaker. Sonic (Ben Schwartz) is a hedgehog from the planet Morbius and has come to earth to escape the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). With the help of Sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marsden), Sonic must collect the rings and stop Dr. Robotnik’s evil plans from succeeding. The film was originally going to release in November of 2019, but that got pushed to February 2020 due to fan outrage over Sonic‘s old design. The movie is going to be a must-see, with an odd cast and a premise just as strange.
