In a press release, Sony revealed that two new Marvel films have been added to the company’s slate. The first untitled film will release on June 23, 2023, with the other Marvel flick set to drop on October 6, 2023.
Sony already has a stacked Marvel slate over the next few years including the long-delayed Morbius movie starring Jared Leto, a Kraven the Hunter solo film led by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and the highly-anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
So, what could these untitled Sony/Marvel movies be? With the June 2023 date, the most likely option is probably another Spider-Man film. After all, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home were both released in the summer. Furthermore, Spider-Man: No Way Home also had a July 2021 release date before being pushed back to December.
As for the October 2023 slot, that’s where things could get interesting. Both films in the Venom franchise opened and/or performed extremely well in October. So, it would make sense for Sony to continue that trend.
Although it may mean nothing, it’s also intriguing to note that Disney originally had an untitled Marvel movie planned for October 6, 2023, before recently making the decision to pull it from the schedule. However, these dates could be for the plethora of other Marvel projects rumored to be in development as part of Sony’s own universe of Spider-Man characters.
Next up for Sony is Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is set to release in theaters on December 17, 2021. The film’s first trailer broke records and it seems that buzz around the franchise is at an all-time high. So, you know, no pressure.
What Marvel movies do you think Sony has planned for 2023, perhaps in the Spider-Man universe? Do you think either one of these films will tie into the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
