Sony really has a problem holding onto information. It’s ironic that the information in question pertains to Spider-Man. Marvel, itself, seems to have an almost iron grip on information pertaining to the MCU. But someone’s gotta slip up, every once in a while, lest there would be nothing to talk about. Sony plans to create a spin-off Spider-Man cinematic universe because it’s what all the cool kids are doing. Though only Marvel and DC are managing to actually pull it off, while the others just chase the trend. As part of those plans, one of Sony’s first endeavor is set to be a movie featuring Black Cat and Silver Sable, joining next year’s Venom film. And now some plot details may have gotten out.
According to The Hashtag Show, the plot revolves around Silver Sable, a bounty hunter working for the U.S Government, going after Black Cat. The reasons are as personal as they are professional. Black Cat is Sable’s only lead on Mendel Stromm, who’d caused her people suffering in the past. Apparently, things become more complicated, as Stromm wants Black Cat back under his thumb; so, he hires Spider-Man villains, Scorpion and Tarantula. Unfortunately for them, Sable already has Black Cat. So the two women are forced to work together to survive.
That premise could be a lot of fun. It has a buddy film vibe, which it turns out the director, Gina Prince-Bythewood, was going for, to begin with. There’s still the question of how tied to Spider-Man any of this will be. Obviously, Peter Parker won’t be featured in any of these Sony films. But Spider-Man is an integral part of many of these characters’ histories. It should prove interesting seeing just how Sony manages to pull off the connection. It could be as simple as mentioning the web-slinger in the movie a few times. The idea of giving all of these characters their own spotlight is interesting as many of them are deep enough to warrant it. Though seeing them all come together at any point would likely require Spidey be involved, right? He is the common thread between them all. But the ball is in Sony’s court, now.
Silver & Black hasn’t revealed any casting details or dates, at this time. The movie is set to begin filming, this fall. Meanwhile, the Venom film is set to release next year, featuring Carnage as its main villain.
