Bandai Namco has announced the Soulcalibur VI world invitational tournament where the best of the best Soulcalibur VI players will fight it out for glory. There will also be prizes, but it’s all about the glory, right?
Due to take place at the HyperX Esports Arena at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, the Soulcalibur invitational will see the 8 best players fight it out to be crowned the very first Soulcalibur invitational world champion. Initially, 7 players will be invited to take part, however, an 8th competitor will be chosen from a pool of 128 players in a last chance qualifier event that will be held at the same venue, on the same day. Talk about pressure for those people.
According to the press release, the tournament will be one of the most entertaining esports events of the year (they would say that) and will feature hosts who will provide fans with a blow by blow. Several names from the fighting game community will also be in attendance including, Markman, Kitana Prime, Aliciaxlife and Ebonic Plague.
Bandai Namco had this to say about the event.
“The SOULCALIBUR franchise has been the premier weapons-based fighting game for two decades, building a fan-base which stretches generations and around the world” said Motohiro Okubo, Producer of SOULCALIBUR VI at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc. “Now, in the age of esports, it’s an honor to finally deliver a tournament fully focused on SOULCALIBUR, where the eight best players from every corner of the globe come together to compete for prizes, honor, and the ultimate crown of being the best SOULCALIBUR VI player in the world.”
I’m not the biggest fan of fighting games in esports myself. That’s not because I don’t like them, it’s just because the showcased players have a level of skill that I will never be able to match and it makes me a bit miserable watching knowing I’ll never be that good.
Suffice to say, I won’t be invited and will be left at home bowing down to superior skill. I’m also guessing that most of you won’t be invited either. That’s not a slight on your skill, it’s just that 8 people isn’t very many to be chosen from the entire world.
Should you wish to go to the event though, you can go as a fan and tickets can be purchased on Smash.gg from today. If you want to know more information about the event itself, head on over to the official website.
The Soulcalibur world invitational tournament will take place on November 2nd. Are you looking forward to it or do you prefer one of the other fighting games on the market?
