South Carolina Woman Calls Out ‘Insane’ Job Market After Seven Interviews With Two Companies: ‘Then They Changed Their Minds’

It’s hard out there

If you live in the U.S. and you’re searching for a job, you’re probably feeling intense panic. It doesn’t seem like there’s a lot out there when it comes to the job market. And that’s partially true, as only 181,000 jobs were created in the U.S. in 2025. These are incredibly low numbers, making it enormously difficult for U.S. workers to actually find and maintain work. Now, a South Carolina woman has another point to make about the state of jobs in the U.S. She’s concerned with how many hoops prospective employees have to jump through just to receive a job offer.

Giovanna (@giovanna.ventola) shared a TikTok explaining that the job market is worse than ever before. Many job seekers have to jump through hoops to land a job. She shares that one person she knows went through “2 companies, 7 interviews, a test… then they changed their minds.” When you’re offered to take a design test at a job, she says they make you “feel pretty good about those prospects, right?” However, she said that the person she knows was actually rejected for both jobs. This means they wasted possibly weeks of a future employee’s life for no reason, only to be rejected anyway.

trying to find a job right now is insane and these stories aren’t isolated incidents 🥲 and they need to be told without compromising your future job prospects so send them my way and I’ll make sure you’re heard 🥲 my DMs are open #jobmarket #jobsearch #unemployed #interview #fyp

Giovanna says she herself experienced turmoil in the U.S. job market. She shares that she lost her job “three times in three years.” She says that the stories of people going through it in our economy right now are “not isolated incidents” and it needs called out. As she shares this person’s pre-employment story, she says these companies will treat things as if they’re going really well. They get your hopes up and then, suddenly, it’s all pulled away from you.

For this prospective employee that Giovanna knows, a company changed things up on her and told her halfway through the interview process that the job role actually changed. They told her, “You’ll be hearing from us” and then never called her back. It’s especially upsetting for those who have been looking for a job for quite some time. Living is expensive, and bills don’t stop coming in for anything.

Giovanna says that a big problem in the U.S. job market is companies posting jobs when they’re “really not” hiring. She says they’re simply “building a talent pipeline so that they look like they’re growing to their investors.” It takes advantage of those who are desperately in need of work, and something has to change.

One commenter shared on Giovanna’s post, “Literally had several rounds – told me they were moving fast. Final interview was amazing and the person even used verbiage that I got the job and she was excited to work with me. I reached out for a follow up since they were indeed moving fast with interviews and now it slowed down.”

This commenter then explained that everything changed. In the end, “I was told they went with someone else that aligned more closely with what they’re looking for. I’m baffled!” Another commenter simply stated, “Living it. Absolutely awful.”
