Red Blue Games and Merge Games have revealed some new artwork and details from their upcoming 2D action-adventure game, Sparklite. These new details focus on some of the many enemies you will encounter should you choose to play Sparklite when it releases this Fall. So, any other developer might have just dropped loose image files and maybe some enemy names and have been done with it. But not these guys. They packaged this press release in the incredible charming guise of an in-game bestiary. Which is honestly the only reason I decided to write about it. That and I love this kind of art style. It just does something for me. Anyway, check this out and see what I mean.
See what I mean by charming? As you can see they have given us a fictional guide to this world in the form of Professor Corwin. This is his bestiary and he features prominently in the press release. Apparently, he is the foremost expert on wildlife in Sparklite’s setting of Geodia. The game’s narrative explains that the antagonist, Baron, has polluted the world with his various mining activities. Subsequently, this has led to Geodia’s various biomes becoming dangerous mutated versions of their former selves. So, it’s up to you as the protagonist Ada to put a stop to it.
So far Sparklite definitely seems like a game to look forward to. As the developer and publisher clearly care about what they are making. Which is always a good sign. Featuring classic top-down action-adventure gameplay reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda. And a soundtrack by composer Dale North that takes cues from GameCube games. Oh, and it has local co-op. So, Sparklite should be on everyone’s radar. It will be available for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One this October. Meanwhile, you can check out the original reveal trailer below to see the game in action.
