It’s that time again. Today, we’re focusing on a beloved character who disposes of his foes in the most horrific way thinkable – he devours them whole, and nothing and no one is safe from the black void of emptiness that is his stomach. It’s Kirby in a speedrun of Kirby’s Return to Dremland, a game released for the Wii. The world record is held by Yosshi (no, that’s not a typo), a Japanese runner performing on the Wii U’s virtual console. We’ve done some wild gimmicks for our coverage recently, but for now we’re returning to the plain and simple concept of non-commented, one player, straight world record running. Sit back and enjoy.

This is a run in the any% category, so Yosshi is free to blaze through the game free of distraction. And blaze through he does, only stopping to collect the necessary number of gears he needs to progress. It’s a new run, having been completed only last December, just after Christmas, and beating the old record by around a minute. The Wing ability is used almost exclusively here for its dash and flight control. Frankly, the invincibility theme ought be playing throughout this entire run. Hmm…

There. Just mute the speedrun video and play this one on loop while you watch. The term sugar rush is never more literal than when Kirby gets one. For the battle against Landia, Yosshi switches to the Ninja ability. It’s here that he loses about ten seconds due to placement and accidentally grabbing a star. Even during the final battle when Kirby must use Super Abilities to break Magolor’s shield, he holds onto the Ninja power to inflict the ending blow with, finishing with a time of 1:37:10.

Too cute and puffy for your tastes? Try this run of Battleblock Theater instead.
