Many of the recent 3D Sonic games have left fans with bitter tastes in their mouths. One of his best depth-inclusive adventures, however, has to be Sonic Adventure 2 on Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle on the Nintendo Gamecube. This is the game that introduced Shadow the Hedgehog and featured two separate storylines to complete. Being a Sonic game, it boasts a fine selection of glitches that are useful for cheating one’s way through the stages and, ultimately, beating both stories in less than an hour and a half. So don’t blink or you might miss it.

In fact, one aforementioned glitch is used right away in the first stage of the game. This run is played on a PC emulator of the Japanese Dreamcast version. Since the Dreamcast was created before the Gamecube port, some of the level elements and certain glitches were fixed for the Gamecube, making the original version the most broken for speedrunning. This is a fairly recent run of the game and also the current world record holder. For those interested in the English Gamecube version, AGDQ has a 1:40 run of both stories to check out right here.
Other categories for Sonic Adventure 2 runs are divided into Hero and Dark Story runs and 180 emblem runs. The emblem run record is just under ten hours, as each stage must be completed with optimal performance five times each. There are also emblems awarded for other activities, such as Chao minigames, kart racing, and boss rush. Collecting every emblem unlocks a 3D version of Green Hill zone to play. That’s a noticeable number of hours logged to beat the game 100%, not to mention that’s the fastest time ever.
