Battle royales often take the form of modern-day shooters, and rarely stray from that. The big names like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Warzone all take the shooter approach, whether that be first or third person. While that isn’t inherently a bad thing, it has admittedly made this genre stale for some time. Fall Guys sought to change that and highly succeeded, and now a new contender joins the ring. Spellbreak, the upcoming mage based battle royale from Proletariat Inc., releases September 3rd for PC (Epic Games Store), PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The release will be free-to-play, with microtransactions. You can watch the visually stunning trailer, shown off at Gamescom Opening Night Live, below.

Spellbreak has many players entering the Hollow Lands. Instead of guns like you’d come to expect, spells take center stage with fantastical combos you can do. Want your teammate to lob corrosive bombs for a distance while you slide in with ice? You can do that here. The limits of the combos are your imagination, so get in there and get creative! Will you become the ultimate battlemage? You’ll have to jump into Spellbreak next week to find out!

At launch, Spellbreak features cross-play and cross-progression. Want to play Spellbreak on the go with your Switch? You’ll be able to pick up right where you left off when you’re back at your PC. Got friends on other platforms? They can join the fun too! Spellbreak is very much a game that looks to include all through being simplistic, beautiful, and most of all, fun! If you’re interested in any of this, you can find more details on Spellbreak’s official page. You can also follow them on various social media.

Will you be looking to snag some wins in Spellbreak? What battle royale out there right now is your favorite? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
