Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 was released this week with an absolute bang, as the highly anticipated sequel web-zipped its way onto the top spot, breaking all previous sales records in PlayStation’s history. Selling over 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours, according to Sony, it has become the “fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game in PlayStation history.”
These sales figures also include the total preorders placed before release and the games included in the PlayStation 5 bundle. But that doesn’t take away from the unrivaled interest in the release of Spider-Man 2.
Spider-Man 2 & The Previous Best-Selling PlayStation Studios Games
The top podium for the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game was previously held by the immaculate God of War Ragnarok from last year. Kratos and Atreus’ final adventure in the Norse realm sold 5 million copies in one week. And prior to that, The Last of Us: Part II sold 4 million copies in 3 days.
The previous Marvel’s Spider-Man game from 2018 was no slouch either, selling 3.3 million copies in 3 days. But its sequel blew that out of the water. But this isn’t the end, as to truly be one of the best sellers, Spider-Man 2 will have to continue this trend in sales for a while.
These metrics for Spider-man 2 are odd, that is because Sony doesn’t usually reveal 24-hour sales figures for its games. It is usually a week or three days, making this comparison somewhat difficult. But we’ll have to take Sony’s word.
Insomniac has been hitting it out of the park in one game after another, and hopefully, this trend will continue in the future. The studio is currently working on a Wolverine game that fans can not wait for. And has also hinted at DLC for Spider-Man 2, and a sequel to this game in the future is essentially a no-brainer as it could be another record breaker.
