Production will begin soon for the highly anticipated third Spider-Man film of the Marvel Universe. 2019 has been an interesting year for Spider-Man, with Sony and Disney battling over ownership and usage rights. But at last, for the time being, it appears things have settled. With a July 2021 release date on the horizon, the third movie will begin filming in the summer of 2020.
This is keeping with the previous two Spider-Man films. Homecoming and Far From Home started filming 12 months before their release dates. Tom Holland is a busy actor these days, and his lengthy contract with Sony and Marvel will likely keep him in the spider suit for years to come. Holland has stated regarding the third film:
It’s interesting, in the third film… I don’t want to talk too much about what it will be about. There’s another deep connection to the next one for me which will be really cool to bring to life. [It is] something very special . . . something very special.”
Very little is known about this Spider-Man movie, only that is will be highly Peter Parker-focused and show his growth and maturity. It will be a part of Marvel’s Phase Four. In 2021, we are also expecting Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in May, and Thor: Love and Thunder in November. Marvel President Kevin Feige said:
I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
