Marvel announced a new series, Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood, to honor the 40th anniversary of the wallcrawler’s iconic suit. The new series gives Spider-Man Marvel’s iconic Black, White & Blood treatment. These comics, which have featured iconic characters like Deadpool and Wolverine, offer bloodier adventures where the only colors are black, white, and red. To create this new four-issue miniseries, Marvel has gathered several all-star creators who will honor the iconic black suit. They will share never-before-seen adventures set in Spidey’s black suit era.
Spider-Man Black Suit Series
The Spider-Man Black Suit series is set for release this August. As noted, the miniseries will comprise of four issues packed with stories not-yet-told from the Black Suit era. To get a feel of what awaits in this celebratory series, Marvel is showing off the main cover for Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood #1. The art, from Leinil Francis Yu, shows Spider-Man in the black suit in battle with an off-screen enemy. The black on his body is completely soaked in red blood showing that this is a series not for the faint of heart.
Meanwhile, Marvel is also sharing what creators and stories readers can expect in this Spider-Man series. J.M. DeMatteis and Elena Casagrande are delving back into DeMatteis’ Kraven’s Last Hunt. Then J. Michael Straczynski is teaming with artist Sumit Kumar to rip out Peter Parker’s heart. That story shows a piece of the symbiote remains buried in Parker, waiting to rip him apart. Finally, Dustin Nguyen writes and draws a story following Spidey being hunted. All these stories are perfectly suited for a series all about blood.
Marvel’s Bloody Year
This Spidey series is not the only bloody tale Marvel is weaving this year. Currently, the entire Marvel Universe is fighting in the gory Blood Hunt event. This blood-soaked saga finds Marvel’s mightiest teaming up to take on hordes of vampires when the sun goes out. The main storyline is receiving dual treatment with a regular issue and Red Band variant with even more blood and guts. Plus, Greg Capullo’s recently announced Wolverine series is also getting the Red Band treatment.
Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood #1 is out on 08/07…if you can handle it.
