Jessica Drew is suiting up once again for the upcoming Spider-Woman tie-in miniseries. The series, from Steve Foxe and Carola Borelli, finds the titular hero hunting down Hydra once again. Spider-Woman stems from Marvel’s Gang War event, which sees Spider-Man recruiting Drew for a mission to take down an old nemesis. Previews for the first issue of this miniseries show Drew going toe-to-toe with Armadillo to uncover the whereabouts of Baron Zemo.
Spider-Woman Back In Action
This new adventure for Jessica Drew was initially intended as a standalone miniseries. However, Marvel decided to incorporate it into the big Gang War event. This event finds the supervillains of New York City vying to gain control of the Big Apple. So now Spider-Man is tasking Spider-Woman with stopping her old nemesis, Viper, who is organizing a union between Hydra and Diamondback.
However, since the events of Dan Slott and Mark Bagley’s Spider-Man series, Spider-Woman has not quite been herself. Jessica Drew is dealing with the after-effects of getting released from the Web of Destiny. While Drew’s life was restored, her friends notice a change in the hero. Can she sort herself out in time to stop Viper and his Hydra plans, or will Spider-Woman’s world get upended once more? Sadly, these previews are giving no secrets away.
A Sneak Peek
A few preview pages for Spider-Woman #1 show Jessica Drew back in action. The hero gets the best of an attacking Armadillo as she seeks out Baron Zemo and his Hydra goons. Writer Steve Foxe is a big fan of the hero, claiming Drew is his favorite Marvel heroine. Not only is she powerful, but her iconic suit and interesting backstory make this super-spy turned Avenger a joy to both write and read.
Even more, the Gang War backdrop is the perfect setting for a Spider-Woman story. While Spider-Woman #1 tells a distinct and true Jessica Drew story, it also ties into the other Spider-series across Marvel.
