Splitgate 2 is known for many things; “Make FPS Great Again!”, “Our BR is… Awesome!,” and most importantly, “the same boring Call of Duty” controversy. Unfortunately, “Success” wasn’t something that was being bandied about too much and, well, it turns out Splitgate 2 may be seemingly going down the same route as the last “CoD Killer“, XDefiant. That’s right, 1047 Games’ latest FPS has dropped to under 1,000 concurrent players in 24 hours for the first time. While the game itself is good, it’s fair to say that the execution hasn’t been optimal.
The shooter genre is an absolute minefield these days. The competition is insane with big giants like Call of Duty and Fortnite consuming whatever’s standing in their way. Right in the middle of this FPS tornado, however, comes a new game called Splitgate 2. If you’re a fan of the genre, you know what happens to a game that isn’t offering anything better than Apex Legends and even goes as far as calling out Call of Duty right on stage.
First, the content creators start hyping up the game as if nothing’s even close to how immersive and wonderful the gameplay is, and then there’s a big silence after the launch, and finally, the game goes down. Why you ask? Lack of content, bad marketing, overhype by none other than the developer himself, controversy, and worst of all, following the exact same strategy as other FPS games and calling it unique to the title.

As reported by @Pirat_Nation on X, Splitgate 2 has hit under 1,000 players in 24 hours on Steam, and that’s bad news for a free-to-play game. Premium titles are paid before play, so there are no worries if singleplayer titles like Assassin’s Creed or God of War hits under 1,000 players if the sales have been solid. But for free-to-play games, players define their value.
This is while Splitgate 2‘s 24-hour players peak is less than 3,800 players. Of course, these are pretty bad numbers that may spark conversations around whether the game is deemed a “failure”. By contrast, Apex Legends had 171,000 just on Steam in the past day, and that game is also available on PlayStation and Xbox systems as well. So those who may suggest something akin to “but Splitgate 2 is a cross-platform game” isn’t helping that much, really.
