One of the most requested and hoped for characters for the MCU is Squirrel Girl. This Squirrel themed superhero is extremely popular. Yet she is unlikely to appear in Marvel’s movies due to being somewhat out of place. But it appears she might be destined for Marvel’s TV lineup instead.
Tvline is claiming that a Squirrel Girl/New Warriors is in production between ABC and Marvel Studios.
“This is nuts: Marvel and ABC Studios are developing a New Warriors comedy series that would put the spotlight on little-known comic book heroine Squirrel Girl, TVLine has learned exclusively. Both Marvel and ABC Studios declined to comment, but sources confirm that the half-hour project is currently being shopped around to cable and streaming outlets.”
Because Marvel’s tv shows are in the same continuity to their movies, this will be interesting if true. Since she is essentially a silver age character in modern comics. She is the creation of Steve Dikto and Will Murray and is actually one of Marvel’s strongest heroes. Her debut involved saving Iron Man from Doctor Doom in the hopes of becoming his sidekick. Iron Man told the then 14-year-old superhero that she was too young.
Squirrel Girl has beaten characters like Deadpool, M.O.D.O.K, and Wolverine since then. She also stopped Galactus from destroying the Earth by befriending him. And there’s not exactly a shortage of talent to play the furry tailed heroine. Earlier in the year, Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick expressed interest in taking a stab at the role. Seeing Anna Kendrick with a tail and commanding squirrels would be amazing.
And yet all of this remains unconfirmed so we’ll have to wait and see. Marvel’s TV shows are only loosely connected to the events of the movies. Our best bet for seeing her is a TV show.
