EA and DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront had a lackluster launch but added to the middling offering with plenty of DLC. But the latest DLC will finally let players relive one of the franchise’s most famous moments.
The mode is as close as ground-to-space combat as we’ll get with the current iteration of Battlefront. The new Battle Station mode will play out over three unique phases. The first sees the rebels and Empire duking it out in space. The rebel pilots must gun down as many TIE fighters as possible before moving on to the more beefy ships. Once all targets have been eliminated the fight moves to the ground.
The rebels must then extract a droid. This section is where players can take advantage of new heroes Chewbacca and Bosk. This section takes place inside the planet destroying weapon as laser fire bounces off the metallic hull. Once the droid is safely escorted off of the premises the battle returns to the stars.
The final phase is the trench run. Players can play as Luke Skywalker as he races down the narrow canyon, lining up the perfect shot and blowing the imperial weapon to smithereens. It certainly sounds like the most ambitious Battlefront mode to date, with a lot of moving parts and different objectives to chase after.
Battle Station is expected to launch sometime in September. Then there is only one last piece of DLC for Star Wars Battlefront: Rogue One: Scarif. This will bring the year-long long DLC cycle to a close. Finally being able to live out this pivotal movie moment in the game is an exciting prospect. The addition of content has been slow, but Star Wars Battlefront is a much more fully featured game than it was last November.
