There is no lack of Star Wars media out there right now, and we’ll only get more. But if Ewan McGregor gets his way we might see an old friend returning soon.
The Obi-Wan actor confirmed that he’d be up for a movie or two revolving around the middle-aged Jedi. He thinks that he’s at the right age to play the character during the interim between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. He’s currently 45, whereas Sir Alec Guinness was 63 when he took on the role of the wise old Jedi.
He’s interested in seeing what the character was up to after defeating Anakin on Mustafar and accompanying Luke off of Tatooine. Hopefully Disney makes the best out of this opportunity and gets to work on these films, bringing back a fan favorite character in the process.
In the meantime, we have a new Star Wars film every year for the foreseeable future. This December marks the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It will tell the story of a ragtag band of rebels as they fight to secure plans to the Death Star before they can be used. Set two weeks before A New Hope, it will bring us back to the world of the original trilogy, giving us an even better sense of the tyranny of the Empire.
Then in 2017, Star Wars Episode VIII will continue the story of Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren. We have no idea what the story will hold, but Luke will finally return, presumably to teach Rey the ways of the force. And after that is the young Han Solo movie, giving the young smuggler an adventure of his own.
Needless to say, despite all of the Star Wars movies coming out soon, we will gladly take two more in the form of Obi-Wan adventures.
